WHAT IS FAKE PROM?
Fake Prom is exactly what it sounds like: an annual dress-up party that mimics the look and feel of a high school graduation formal dance...but is completely fraudulent! Not sanctioned by any official scholastic institutions or learning organizations, Fake Prom is a counter-culture alternative to the uptight rigidity of more "authorised" events. So don't worry about all of the boring stuff involved in attending an actual prom (tedious things like studying, learning, earning a high school diploma and, of course, not being legal drinking age), just come out and dance the night away.

Fake Prom is open to anybody and everybody who wants to get dressed up in a killer ensemble and spend an evening dancing to some classic prom tunes. Integrated into this non-stop dance party are some very prom-esque activities. Everything you'd expect from a real prom is featured at Fake Prom: attendees get their portraits taken under the balloon arch; there are open nominations for Fake Prom King and Fake Prom Queen; and celebrity judges adjudicate fiercely-contested dance contests. A highlight of Fake Prom every year is the showcased Fake Prom band. Every year, we put together a group of local rockers who cover a variety of hit songs from proms of the past.

In addition to these activities that occur at every Fake Prom, each Fake Prom is unique. Some years we print up and hand out an etiquette handbook, some years we have everyone sign a "book of memories". Taking a cue from actual proms, Fake Prom has a different theme every year. This theme sets the tone and influences the activities that happen at Fake Prom. For instance, in 2004, the Fake Prom theme was "Under the Sea". All the decorations and food were underwater and sealife-themed. Everyone who came in the door was given a Hawaiian lei. Be sure to check out the main page for more details on this year's futuristic science fiction theme, "Out of This World" Fake Prom theme. Also, take a look at some of the FAKE PROM PRESS that we've received in the past. It might give you some more insight into what Fake Prom is all about!

So consider this an open invitation to Fake Prom. The Fake Prom Committee is always excited to see fresh new faces come and partake in the festivities. Drop us a line with any questions you may have or any ideas of things you'd like to see at Fake Prom!
